10 Last Day of School Read Alouds
You’ve made it to the last day (or week) of school and you’ve wrapped up units and curriculum and packed up the majority of supplies… so now what? I love pulling out some of my favorite read-alouds for these last few days. It serves two purposes: fills time with few supplies needed AND brings in some sweet, sentimental moments.

Here are some of my favorite last day (or week) of school books:
“A Letter from Your Teacher on the Last Day of School” by Shannon Olsen
From the author and illustrator of Our Class is a Family, this touching picture book expresses a teacher’s sentiments and well wishes on the last day of school.
“Goodbye for Now” by Madison Rowe
A book with bright, playful illustrations and a charming message that you can deliver to your students from the teacher's perspective. It recalls all the ups, downs, highs, lows, and FUN that your class had together over the school year!
"Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss
A classic that is silly yet still encourages your kiddos to embrace new adventures and possibilities.
"Last Day Blues" by Julie Danneberg
This book follows a group of students and their teacher on the last day of school, capturing the mixed emotions and excitement of the end of the year.
"The Last Day of Kindergarten" by Nancy Loewen
Perfect for kindergartners, this book highlights the special moments and memories made during the school year as children prepare to move on to first grade.
"Summer According to Humphrey" by Betty G. Birney
This book features Humphrey, a classroom hamster, who shares his observations and experiences as the school year comes to an end and summer break begins.
"Last Day, Hooray!" by Nancy Poydar
In this book, a diverse group of elementary school students celebrates the last day of school with fun activities, reflecting on their achievements, and looking forward to the summer vacation.
"The Year of Billy Miller" by Kevin Henkes
