I remember my very first day teaching.

As students walked into my classroom I thought to myself…

“Wait… what am I supposed to DO on the first day of school?”

And the questions just kept coming…

  • “What do I do at Open House? What should I send home?”

  • “What do I do on the morning of a Field Trip? What do I need to take with me?”

  • “What do I do if I think my student is faking an allergy??”

The problem was… who do I ASK?

They didn’t teach me this stuff in college.

They didn’t talk about it at professional development.

I had already dropped by my principal’s office 573 times before the first day of school…

What’s a new teacher to do??

I realized other new teachers had the same questions.

My student teachers had the same questions.

A decade in, I started working as a New Teacher Mentor and guess what? SAME QUESTIONS.

That’s when I realized - the questions AND the problem haven’t changed:

Who do new teachers ASK for help?

College classes, PD, and principals are great for content instruction, but it’s hard to find support for all the “other” stuff in teaching:

Field Trips. Parent Teacher Conferences. Classroom Libraries. Book Lists. First Day of School. Last Day of School. Everything else in between…

After I survived those first new-ish teacher years…

That’s where Teacher Questions started.

This is a space on the internet for new-ish teachers to ask questions, read answers, and enjoy a few stories along the way. Here are a few places to start…

Answers to questions from my teaching career and teachers just like you.

Resources to help support all of the “other” parts of teaching.
